The Red Hat Society is a worldwide organization for mature women who wish to get together and enjoy their own company at cultural, entertainment, and social events. Classic Elegance Red Hatters is a duly chartered chapter of the Society.

Click here for information about the Red Hat Society itself at www.redhatsociety.com.

The organization takes its name and keynote from the famous poem, "Warning", by Jenny Joseph, which opens with this passage:

"When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me"

Classic Elegance Red Hatters is one of well over five dozen chapters of the Society in the Dallas, Texas area. Membership is open to any woman of age 50 or greater. There are no dues, and members cover their own expenses for meals, admission to events, and so forth.

Members at all organized events of the chapter wear purple dresses or suits and red hats–the more outrageous the better, some say.

As women we are very conscious of the need to take care of our bodies, and respect the needs of those around us to do likewise. Accordingly, smoking is not permitted at any function of the chapter.
